The main aim of the program to provide world class training to talanted artists and give them the skills needed to embark on a career in Europe, focused on professional growth.


We offer training in role preparation, vocal technique, dramatic preparation, audition technique, and stage movement. In addition to the main stage productions, the program will include concerts, open masterclasses, staged scenes and short operas with piano.

Summer Opera Studio

Summer Opera Studio is a comprehensive opera training program, which is designed for emerging professional singers considering a career in Israel and Europe. We co-operate with professional opera festivals, theaters and European opera agencies.


The program will have a strong training element, and artists will work with world-class singers, directors, conductors, coaches, and choreographers both in production rehearsals and in training sessions, which will include individual and group vocal and repertoire coaching, masterclasses, auditioning classes and career seminars.

Summer Opera Festival

Summer Opera Festival established as a flagship event to show off Jerusalem as a destination for new and unique art experiences. The very special performances of the best known and most popular pieces of operatic literature make up the central core of the festival’s program. The mission of the festival is bringing together talents from all the arts, and on encouraging new talent. We are proud to make the education of emerging professional singers a large part of what we do.

International Competition

The International Opera Competition takes place in Jerusalem and is open for singers participants of the summer program. The main goal of the Competition is to assist the career development of talented young singers. It also acts as a bridge builder between the Israel and international music scenes. Through several rounds, a jury consisting of internationally renowned opera conductors, singers and casting associates from some of the world's top opera houses judge the participants' efforts.

Auditions

To submit your application to the Summer Program, please click on the red button below and fill out the application form. Please indicate for which role(s) you wish to be considered or Opera Studio Apprentice Position. You will receive an email confirming your application and giving you instructions related to your audition.

RECORDED AUDITION

For the recorded audition, submit a link to a YouTube video of your audition in the application form. (The professional recording is preferable) You should submit an audition video with piano accompaniment or with orchestra.

NOTE: There is no deadline for the recorded auditions, but early applying is recommended for early casting. The number of participants is limited.


Audition results

The audition result letter is sent out regardless the result. The casting usually starts from January and finishing in April. In special cases, this may take longer. We appreciate your patience and asks to give notice us about changes in your plans to participate in the summer program.

Please prepare two contrasting arias of your choice (one in Italian). Applicants who would like to be considered for roles in opera productions should submit the following materials:

Application Fee & Tuition

The summer program is supported and subsidized by the Jerusalem Municipality and the Ministry of Culture and Sport in Israel, which allows to keep a lower price of tuition than other similar programs in Israel and Europe.


Application Fee for recorded auditions 40€

Application Fee for live auditions 25€ (100 NIS)


Participants chosen to perform solo roles in the mainstage festival productions, understudy major and substantial roles, and participate in all training opportunities pay 1500€ towards tuition fees.

Participants chosen to participate in the program with a strong training element and perform in the ensemble with the possibility to perform appropriate roles and understudy roles pay 1,250 € towards tuition fees.


All tuition deposits are non-refundable under any circumstances



Scholarships

The limited number of partial and full scholarships are available for participants demonstrating a high abilities and a particular needs. In special cases, the Summer Program covers the flying expenses and accommodation.

To apply for the scholarship, please include a brief explanation of your request at the time of your filling an application form.



Accommodation

The accommodation is not included in the tuition price and not provided by summer program. The participant must choose to supply their own housing.

International Opera Competition

The International Opera Competition takes place in Jerusalem and is open for singers participants of the summer program. The main goal of the Competition is to assist the career development of talented young singers. It also acts as a bridge builder between the Israel and international music scenes. Through several rounds, a jury consisting of internationally renowned opera conductors, singers and casting associates from some of the world's top opera houses judge the participants' efforts.

Repertoire requirements

Candidates are invited to compile their own individual list of arias to be performed in the competition. The pieces presented in two rounds cannot be the same.



Arias

The repertoire list must consist of five opera arias. Consideration should be given to present arias in contrasting styles. Candidates are encouraged to include Israel music amongst their choices. The Competition has prepared a representative list of suggestions of works by Israels composers.



General requirements

Opera arias must be performed in the original key and, where possible, in their original language. Please note that you cannot perform the same works in the preliminary and the final rounds. All rounds of the Opera Competition are open to the public.




Rounds and repertoire


Preliminary round

All participants of the summer program are invited to take part in the preliminary rounds. The repertoire consists of two self-chosen operatic arias from your repertoire list. Total performance time should not exceed 7 minutes. The pieces are to be performed with piano accompaniment.



Final

12-15 candidates will be admitted to the final. The repertoire consists of thee works from the contestant’s submitted list of arias. Two of the pieces must be operatic arias. If you have included Israeli's aria in your repertoire, these should be performed in the final. Total performance time per contestant should not exceed 15 minutes. The pieces are to be performed with piano accompaniment

Young Artists Programme

Season 2021 - 2022>

Jerusalem Young Artists Programme helps highly gifted young musicians become the stars of tomorrow.


Jerusalem Young Artists Programme is a paid residency program aimed at young opera singers who have completed their formal training and need further comprehensive training to align themselves with the demands of the current professional standards of European opera houses to improve their employability. Participants are selected through international live auditions, which will be held in October in Jerusalem and through online auditions.

A two-month-to one -year intensive training program will take place in Jerusalem, offered by internationally renowned professionals.

The program offers concrete professional opportunities of employment in the musical world and creates an international network of professional employment involving further educational opportunities, musical training institutions, theaters and performances.
